This rare Hawaiian wood was found in the field of the old Hawaiian Congregational Church in Makena. The Pastor decided he wanted the log removed. Once it was cut, the maintenance man realized that this was a spectacular piece of wood. He called Bruce to identify it. It was not an easily recognized wood. They did some research in the Bishop Musuem and found it. The wood is known as Kou wood. The ancient Hawaiians used it for Calabash bowls and utensils because of it's hardness.
Bruce was gifted the wood and created his famous mobius curves throughout. Using his signature style He left part of the wood in its natural state and highlighted the beautiful, rich tones with smooth twists and turns, the never ending mobius curve.
